One Offshore Upgrade for Double-Joint Pipe Handling System

One Offshore has been selected for an order to provide a pipe handling system for double-joints on an existing pipe lay barge for an established EPC contractor customer in Malaysia.

To be delivered in February 2016, the double-joint factory is to be added to an existing pipe lay barge that has been successfully deployed, under a highly-accelerated programme that includes design, construction and commissioning.

The system uses variable frequency electric inverter drives that permit fast hook up and commissioning onboard. Hydraulic actuators perform linear movement functions.

The upgraded part of the system is controlled by an advanced version of programmable logic controller system from Siemens, with touch screen operator interface and diagnostics.

Quality components from established brands for mechanical, electric drive, PLC controls, hydraulics and instrumentation are specified.

“We are delighted and honoured to be selected by an established customer from amongst other worthy and reputable equipment builders for this order of great importance to the customer. Besides being a first of its kind in this part of the world, this is also a case where an extremely tight delivery and technical complexity such as compatibility with legacy systems onboard are essential requirements.” says Steve Seow, chief executive of One Offshore.
